Legal framework

In accordance with fire safety regulations, fire detection systems are usually connected to the following systems:

  • Elevators
  • Ventilation systems
  • Automatic fire protection closures
  • Fire suppression systems
  • Electronic emergency exit locks
  • Emergency exit doors

Depending on the way in which buildings are constructed and used, fire detection and alarm systems are subject to mandatory inspections under the Hessian Technical Inspection Ordinance (TPrüfV) and the Hessian Building Code (HBO). Additional requirements apply to specific types of building (e.g. event spaces, hotels and restaurants, hospitals, care homes, high-rise buildings and schools). Insurance providers may also stipulate their own conditions.
