Medical examinations and drug tests / drug screening
A variety of medical conditions can influence an individual’s fitness to drive to the extent that the person is completely unfit to drive a car on the road. Medical examinations performed by a doctor or specialist authorised at our request or demanded by the German licensing authority are used as the basis for assessing whether an individual is fit to drive or conditionally qualified only.

Medical-Psychological Assessment (MPA)
The Life Service division performs medical-psychological examinations (MPAs) for people who are required by the German licensing authority to demonstrate their fitness to drive in terms of their mental, physical and emotional ability. The reasons for such a demand from the licensing authority vary considerably, e.g. driving under the influence of alcohol or other forms of seriously impaired behaviour when driving vehicles on the road.

To determine a person‘s fitness to drive in terms of mental, physical and emotional ability, the German licensing authority in specific cases demands a medical-psychological examination (MPA or medical certificate from a doctor or specialist). For drivers required to undergo such an examination, the Life Service division of TÜV Hessen provides an information service to prepare them for the medical-psychological assessment (ger.: Medizinisch-Psychologische Untersuchung).
