Industry Service Division
Welcome to the Industry Service Division (IS) at TÜV Hessen!
The Industrial Services Division (IS) provides inspection and consultancy services for all areas of industry, commerce, trade and mining, in addition to services for the public sector and individuals in the field of safety engineering and environmental protection. These primarily include industrial safety regulations, technical inspection regulations, legislation covering water use and hazardous goods and all other areas of law governing industrial plants, systems and the environment.
Over 300 experts in the division perform inspections of pressure vessels, steam boilers, lifts and conveyor systems, for example, plus high-pressure gas pipelines and plants with water-polluting or flammable materials. All areas of facility management, such as fire protection systems, lightning and surge protection systems, etc. are covered by the expertise available from our engineers in a wide variety of specialised fields. Another field we cover is materials testing and site supervision for the construction of industrial plant and equipment or the installation of pipelines. Other areas inspected by our staff include all kinds of electrical systems. Training courses in all the above areas round off the range of services we provide.
Our day-to-day experience in the inspection of industrial plants enables us to provide operators such as public authorities with professional consultancy services, particularly in the development of safety concepts for industrial plants, fire protection concepts and emergency management organisations, in addition to support during the tendering process.

Our service for operators includes support during the licensing procedure, e.g., according to the national immission protection laws. The entire licensing management process, including technical expert assessments, such as smokestack height assessment and immision predictions or expert water hazard estimates, can be delegated to our specialists. The creation/review of safety reports according to the statutory regulations on hazardous incidents completes the comprehensive spectrum of services.
Tired of double-checking everything? Our experts will monitor and accompany your project from start to finish in the area of industrial facility construction. This includes inspecting the building materials used and the laying of pipework for such projects as (just to name a few):
- electrical installations
- pressure vessels
- steam boilers
- elevators and conveyor systems
- high-pressure gas lines
- water pollutants or flammable materials
- fire protection equipment
- lightning protection / voltage surge protection etc.
The Industrial Services Division is a notified body in accordance with the Pressure Vessel and Lift Directives and performs tests in a laboratory operated specifically for this purpose in accordance with the EMC Directive. Notified bodies in the field of environmental protection are test centres in accordance with sections 26 and 28 of the German Immission Control Act for odour immissions (olfactrometry), noise measurement and vibration protection, in addition to recognised experts in accordance with section 29a of the German Immission Control Act. Our environmental experts in accordance with the Environmental Audit Act and auditors in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 and 14001 support the Management Systems Division in all areas of customer certification.
In addition to the numerous inspection and consultancy services, we also provide special services such as the inspection of passenger boarding bridges or training programmes for operational units on near-miss processing (SOL method).
